Major Hermon Wesley Boone, Jr., 89, of Columbus, GA died Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Vista Care at Franciscan Woods.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, September 12, 2011 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mike Reeves officiating. The following will serve as pallbearers: Ret. Chief Jim Wetherington, Ret. Commander Bobby Knox, Ret. LT. Ronald Lynn, Doug Jones, Rob Ducker, and Hunter Ducker. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 PM according to the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Major Boone was born August 9, 1922 in Columbus, GA son of the late Hermon Wesley Boone, Sr. and Ethel Marie Leonard Boone. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served in World War II. He retired after 32 years as a Major for the Columbus Police Department. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Rosehill Masonic Lodge, and the FOP Lodge.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Cowart Boone. He was the last of eight children.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Boone of Columbus, GA, daughter, Betty I. Frullaney of Columbus, GA, son, Hermon Wesley Boone, III â
