Madge Hartley Railey

Madge Hartley Railey, 89, of Columbus, GA passed away Sunday December 8, 2024 at Piedmont Northside Hospital with her loving family by her side.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday 11:00 a.m., December 13, 2024 at Beallwood Baptist Church, 4650 Veterans Parkway, Columbus, GA 31904 with Rev. Royce Railey and Dr. David Mills officiating. The family will have a visitation after the service at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Mrs. Railey was born November 17, 1935 in Headland, Alabama to the late John Thomas Hartley and Lois Hand Hartley. Married August 26, 1954 to Lee R. Railey, Sr. she was a devoted wife of 70 years, loving mother and grandmother, helping raise several of her grandchildren. Madge was a faithful member of Beallwood Baptist Church for 71 years. She served in the nursery for 61 of those years encouraging many generations of children in their faith. She loved to sing alto in the choir and played clarinet in the orchestra. A 1954 graduate of Columbus High School, she was a member of the marching band. She was a woman of great integrity who never met a stranger and had an amazing servant’s heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Joe Hartley and Malcolm Hartley.Survivors include her husband, Lee R. Railey, Sr. of Columbus, GA, son: Royce Railey (Kim) of Cataula, GA, daughters: Jackie Watford of Columbus, GA, Vicki Childs (Harold) of Fortson, GA, and Melody Fretwell (Robbie) of Columbus, GA, Six Grandchildren, Seven Great Grandchildren and Four Great Great Grandchildren.
