Lynne Kathleen Barrier, 75, of Columbus, GA died Monday, February 10, 2025 at her residence.
A graveside service will be held 11:30 AM, Monday February 17, 2025 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Panama City, Florida. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 PM, Monday, February 24, 2025, in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Lynne was born November 15, 1949 in Winter Haven, Florida to Imogene Messner and Charles Pinkney Barrier. She attended private high school in Georgia and graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Interior Design.
In October of 1971 Lynne was part of the opening cast of Walt Disney World, and she’s one of the thousand or so people on the front of the October Life Magazine (along with Bryan & Ann Newman) celebrating that event. Lynne originally drove the monorail & taught Bryan to drive it, which is how he, & then we, met her. She eventually worked in the Contemporary Hotel as a designer.
Lynne’s career eventually took her to Washington D.C. where she worked in Civil Service as a designer for the Department of the Army in the Pentagon for 31 years. She was there on that fateful day on September 11, 2001, when the plane flew into the Pentagon. She quickly helped set up temporary offices and then new permanent ones.
Lynne loved her cats, Kinky & Lucy. She loved walks on the beach, looking for shells, watching the birds and enjoying the sunsets, including what she called “the after glow,” when the sky turns beautiful shades of pastels. She loved music and symphonies. She sang in the Rollins College choir for a bit & she played classical music on her baby grand piano. She loved going to yard sales with her cousin and aunt in Panama City & loved to visit the small towns nearby. And she’d have a huge bowl of ice cream at bedtime.
Hurricane Michael on October 10, 2018 unfortunately ended her beach retirement when it caused a lot of damage for the building. Ann & Bryan brought her up to Columbus, Georgia where she lived out her last years as dementia/Alzheimer’s took its toll.
Lynne had no siblings and she never married. Lynne’s mother predeceased her, but she is survived by her stepfather, Ernest Wigglesworth, and her cousins Roger Barrier, Rodney Barrier, & William (Billy) Barrier.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in her memory to Columbus Hospice or to Kibbles n Kovers Animal Welfare group, 7410 Teakwood Ct. Southport, FL 32409 (or PayPal to Hilary Slaten@stellaswish29.)
