Major Ret. USAF Luther Emmett Taylor, 81, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Columbus Hospice House.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Louvale Cemetery in Louvale, GA with Reverend Bud Rupel officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Maj. Taylor was born September 6, 1931 in Ft. Benning, GA son of the late Jamie Lewe Taylor, Sr. and Anna Belle Wilder Hatch. He retired after 20 years as a Major in the U.S. Air Force where he earned 4 Air Force Accommodations. He graduated from Eufaula High School and then graduated from Auburn University and Columbus State University. He was a lifetime member of the PTA and the NRA. He was a member of the Eagle Scout, sons of the American Revolution, and the Air Force Skeet and Pistol Team where he was the Captain of the Skeet and Trap team.
He was a great family man and loved all his animals.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jamie L. Taylor, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Gloria Dennis Taylor of Columbus, GA, four daughters, Nancy Dodson (Doug) of Columbus, GA, LeAnna Chaplinski (Dr. Tom) of Greenville, NC, KippiAnn Eldora Taylor of Columbus, GA and Glorian E. Thornton (Joseph) of Columbus, GA, three grandchildren, Chasen Quattlebaum, Clayton Quattlebaum and Taylor E. Cusack, and lifelong friends, Dr. George Karnes (Mary) of Johnson City, TN.
