Luther John Sanders

Luther John Sanders, Jr., 84, of Phenix City, AL died October 10, 2014 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, October 13, 2014 at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gene Forehand and Rev. Dennis Lacey officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers are Dennis Sanders II, Jay Daniel, Mickey Harden, Willie Broxson, Sam Currie and Brad Lacey. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 1:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Sanders was born on September 23, 1930 in Phenix City, AL the son of the late Luther John Sanders, Sr. and Elizabeth Marie Sanders. He served in the Alabama Army National Guard and was a glazer with Uneeda Glass Company and Columbus Glass Company. Mr. Sanders was a member of North Highland Assembly of God Church and was a song director in many Assembly of God churches in Phenix City, AL. He sang with Beasley's Quartet. He enjoyed singing and playing the drums.
Other than his parents, Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Harden, Louise Purvis and Gloria Cox.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Osie Sanders, Phenix City, AL; three sons, Raymond Sanders (Angela) Baker, FL, Dennis Sanders, Phenix City AL, and Tim Sanders (Susanne) Smiths Station, AL; sister, Frances "Peewee" Tice, Phenix City, AL., three grandchildren, Dennis Sanders II, Katie Sanders and T.J. Sanders; three great grandchildren, Rayne Sanders, Taylor Sanders and Reagan Sanders.
The family would like to thank Jane Gallaway, Judy Jones and Chaplain Lauren Tenney of Columbus Hospice.
