H. Thomas Outler was born to the late Newton and Algerine Outler on January 15, 1943, in Macon, Georgia. He was raised and went to school in Warner Robins, Georgia. He joined the Army after school, and he married his high school sweetheart Faith Ann Gregg Outler. He served 24 years in the service, and Tom rose through the ranks to retire with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1985. During his military service, Tom and Faith lived in Hawaii, Okinawa, Germany, and many other installations throughout the Eastern United States. Tom was a cum laude graduate from Campbell University in 1974.

Tom was an incredibly generous person and always thought of others before himself. He loved science fiction and the many mysteries of the world. Tom was witty, and his dry sense of humor was one of the many joys of being in his life. Mr. Outler was a loving husband, father, and grandpa who will be missed dearly.

Tom and Faith had one son, Howard Thomas Outler, who died in 2001, which was devasting for them. Tommy left them with one beautiful granddaughter, Carson Outler. Faith, Tom's wife of almost 50 years, passed in 2011. She was the love of his life. He was also preceded in death by his only brother, Ray Newton Outler.

Tom is survived by various family members, including his granddaughter, Carson Renee Outler; sisters Sandra Faye Mathis of Byron, GA, and Teresa Ann Blackmon of Warner Robins, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. In his final years, Tom was assisted by his lifelong dear friend Maria Meltzer and Carson's stepfather, Jim Ellison. Many thanks to Columbus Hospice for helping Tom maintain his independence and dignity in his last weeks.
