LTC (Ret.) George D. Wolfe Jr, of Ligonier, PA passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 27, 2011.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 5-7pm at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd in Columbus, GA.
LTC (Ret.) Wolfe was born January 14, 1934 in Gettysburg, PA to the late Rev. George D. Wolfe and Vernie Warner Wolfe. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Carl Wolfe and a sister, Mary Lou Lenz.
LTC (Ret.) Wolfe was a Husband, a Father, a Grandfather, an Uncle, a Brother and a Friend....but one role that he was especially proud of was that of United States Army Infantryman. Being an Infantryman, he used to say that he "walked to work". He was a career serviceman and a highly decorated Viet Nam War Veteran. He served in many units and battalions, but the one closest to his heart was the 26th Infantry Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division. He was involved in his church and family and got great joy from his grandchildren. One of his favorite sayings was "getting old ain't for sissies".
He is survived by his wife of 26 years. Rochella Wolfe; his former wife and mother of his children, Audrey Wolfe, his children and step-children, Randy Wolfe, George Dale Wolfe III (Lauren), Laurie Wolfe and Amy Croom, all of Columbus, GA; Cheryl Young(Keith) of Wyoming, Karen Stewart(Lee) of Latrobe, PA and Scott Ache(TJ) of Denver, CO; 12 grandchildren,1 great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
