Lois June Cumbie

Lois June Cumbie, 89, of Fortson, GA died Wednesday, August 28, 2024 with her family by her side peacefully.

Funeral services will be held 2:00PM Saturday, August 31, 2024 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, with the Reverend Shane Green officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery.

Lois June Cumbie was born June 26, 1935 in Passaic, NJ, daughter of the late James and Etta Skelenger. She graduated from high school in Midland Park, New Jersey where she became a caregiver. She met her husband, Jim soon after. They married on January 14, 1961, had five children and built a home in Fortson, GA. It was here where Lois completed her journey of fostering over 200 children and built a loving community near Nankipooh.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Cumbie, brother, Jack Skelenger, and her son, Ricky Cumbie.

Survivors include her sons, Jimmy Cumbie of Cataula, GA, Mark Cumbie of Columbus, GA,  her daughters, Sherri Cox (Steven) of Fortson, GA and Tammy Brooks (Al) of Fortson, GA, grandchildren, Tiffany Arroyo (Jose) of Waverly Hall, GA, Luke Cox of Columbus, OH, Jessica Cox of Columbus, OH, Christina Karastury (Josh) of Franklin, GA, Tyler Bass (Sarah) of Phenix City, AL, Sarah Andras (Steven) of Cleveland, OH, Jocelyn Blake (Josh) of Opelika, AL, Danna Price (Greg) of Newnan, GA, and Al Brooks III of Fortson, GA, great-grandchildren, Haley Ayala of Kennesaw, GA, Kaylie Helterbran of Columbus, OH, Ashton Helterbran of Columbus, OH, Isabelle Gerdeman of Columbus, OH, Dylan Karastury of Franklin, GA, Bailey Karastury of Franklin, GA, Meadow Karastury of Franklin, GA, David Albert Price of Newnan, GA, Autumn Caroline Price of Newnan, GA, Beckett Bass of Phenix City, AL and Shepherd Bass of Phenix City, AL.
