Lee Ann Scogin, affectionately known by those closest to her as Lee Ann, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024, in Columbus, Georgia. Born on March 7, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Lee Ann's infectious spirit and loving nature touched the lives of everyone she met throughout her 80 years. Lee Ann was a devoted wife to her husband Pete and a cherished mother to her son Richard and his wife Kathy. She delighted in her role as a grandmother to Anna Kent and her husband Houston, Caroline, and Ryan, and she embraced every moment with her great-grandson Aiden Kent. Lee Ann's family was the cornerstone of her life, and her love for them knew no bounds. She was the sister to Michael Tracey (deceased), Barbara Craddock, Judy Woods (deceased), Cassie Olson, Patti Gay, and Brian Tracey. The bond she shared with her siblings was forged in love and mutual respect, weaving a fabric of family unity that remained strong throughout her life.
Lee Ann's professional journey was marked by her entrepreneurial spirit and her dedication to her work. As a self-employed beautician and grocery store manager for 18 years, she brought beauty and joy to her community. When her family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, Lee Ann's career took a new direction as she excelled as a 3M account representative at Wurzburg. She retired from Wurzburg after many years of dedicated service, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment. In 2010, Lee Ann and Pete relocated to Columbus, Georgia, to be closer to their son Richard and his growing family. It was there that Lee Ann's creativity truly flourished. An avid crafter, she found joy and purpose in quilting, becoming exceptionally skilled over 14 years. Her passion for design, sewing, and quilting was evident in every stitch, and she generously shared her knowledge with others, teaching the art of quilting to new crafters. Lee Ann's quilts were more than just blankets; they were works of art and tokens of love, especially those she made for the neonatal intensive care unit. Each quilt she gifted to family and friends remains a cherished heirloom, a tangible reminder of her selfless nature and creative soul.
Beyond her crafting, Lee Ann was the epitome of a gracious hostess. Her ability to transform any occasion into a memorable celebration was unmatched. Her meticulous decorations and home-baked goods, including her unforgettable salted blueberry pie, were the highlights of every gathering. Those who knew Lee Ann would describe her as loving, selfless, and creative. She poured her heart into her relationships, her hobbies, and her community, leaving an indelible mark on all she encountered. Her warmth and generosity of spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten. As we bid farewell to Lee Ann Scogin, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, creativity, and selflessness. Her memory will continue to inspire and comfort us, just as the quilts she crafted will continue to provide warmth to those she loved. Lee Ann's legacy of kindness and dedication to her family and friends will live on, a testament to a life that was truly a gift to us all.
