Leah DesPortes Hamer, 89, of Columbus, died Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Spring Harbor, Columbus, Georgia, where she had resided for over 10 years.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, December 13, 2018 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. John Fugh, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hamer was born February 7, 1929 in Columbus, Georgia daughter of the late Richard S. and Leah Williams DesPortes. She graduated from Columbus High School and attended Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and The Junior League of Columbus.
She was a supporter of the Schwob School of Music and the golf program at Columbus State University. She enjoyed attending concerts and regular lunches out with family and friends.
Other than her parents, Mrs. Hamer was preceded in death by her husband, George Stanford Hamer, Jr.
Survivors include her son, George Stanford Hamer, III, her brother, William L. (Dorothy) DesPortes and many nieces, nephews and friends.
