Lamax Thompson, 83, of Cataula, GA died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Don Wilhite officiating. There will be a private interment in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the church, according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA.
Mr. Thompson was born September 14, 1928 in Columbus, GA son of the late Venable M. Thompson and Eula Day Thompson. He served in the U. S. Navy Reserve and retired from Goldens Foundry as plant manager. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and served there as Minister of Pastoral Care.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy L. Elkins; his son, Frank Thompson; his brothers, John Thompson and Frank Thompson and his son-in-law, Paul Myers.
Survivors include his wife Elaine Hatcher Thompson of Cataula, GA; sons, James Earl Miles of Cataula, GA, Kenny Thompson, Sr. of Columbus, GA; daughters, Denise Cash (Stan) of Cataula, GA, Tonia Hughes of Americus, GA, and Lawanda Myers of Ellerslie, GA; daughter-in-law, Liz Thompson of Columbus, GA; ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, those so desiring may make memorial contributions to Calvary Baptist Church, 7556 Old Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909.
