Kathy Ann Brown, 71, of Columbus, GA, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at St. Mark United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Tucker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

She was born on July 27, 1949 to the late Gerald Leighton and Frances Anna (Nash) Britt in Sapporo, Japan. She was seven minutes younger than her twin sister, Carla. Kathy attended Baker High School and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Columbus College.  She was married to Ronald “Buzz” Brown for 51 years.

Kathy served the state of Georgia for 34 years in the Office of the Department of Family and Children Services. She was a faithful member of St. Mark United Methodist Church of Columbus, GA and gave of her time and talents to the church. Kathy was a gifted alto in the Chancel Choir, active in the Friendly Sunday School Class, chaired the Church and Society Outreach working closely with South Columbus UMC, Open Door Community House, and Teen Challenge. She was a helper with the Wednesday Kitchen Committee, chaired the Care and Loss Committee and was a volunteer Children’s Sunday School teacher.

Kathy had a deep love for her family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She spent her time loving her family, spoiling her grandchildren, taking care of her flowers, and serving her church and community. Kathy was a survivor of leukemia. Later, she developed Parkinson’s disease and bravely fought the battle to remain steady and strong for ten years. Through it all, Kathy leaned and depended heavily on the Lord to give her strength. She lived her faith daily, was loved by many, and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Buzz, and her sons, Gary Brown, of Fortson, GA, and Kevin Brown (Kacey) of Columbus, GA. She will forever live in the hearts of her three grandchildren, Alex Brown of Columbus, GA, Berlin Brown of Fortson, GA, and Jack Brown of Columbus, GA. She is also survived by her sisters Janice Bodrick (Ray) of Woodbridge, VA, and her twin sister Carla Askew (Hoke) of Columbus, GA, her nephews, Brian West and Brad Willis of Geneva, FL, and niece, Lauren West of Wilmore, KY.

Flowers will be accepted, but those who wish may make donations to St. Mark UMC.
