Kathryn "Kay" Jean Schiavone

Kathryn (Kay) Jean Schiavone, 84, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, March 13, 2022 peacefully at her residence.

Kathryn (Kay) Jean Gronberg was born November 8, 1937 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to the late Ben and Jean Gronberg. She grew up in Minneapolis and attended Minneapolis public schools followed by Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing graduating April 5, 1959. Kay’s career as a Registered Nurse extended over 40 years working in the various communities. She retired in 1999 from St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA after 25 years of doing what she loved to do. Kay loved her family and taking care of all her patients. On September 17, 1960 Kay married Dale Schiavone, she had 3 children whom she loved dearly, son, Rocco and daughters, Michelle and Renee.

Kay was a member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church volunteering in various church programs. Kay also volunteered for Meals on Wheels among other social initiatives. Kay had a passion for gardening, she was awarded yard of the month 3 times. She was a wonderful seamstress, decorator, and loved staying busy around the house. Christmas time was a special holiday; her house would be filled with the smells of cookies, cakes and candy. She enjoyed reading and traveling but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family members. She also loved her beloved cat, Tulabell. Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her younger sisters, Caroline Gronberg, Mary Blake and grandson, Malcolm “Mac” Forte IV.

She is survived by her ex-husband and friend, Dale Schiavone, brother, Steve Gronberg (Linda), children Rocco Schiavone, Michelle Schiavone, Renee Forte, dearly loved grandchildren Ben Forte, Clayton Forte and Camden Schiavone.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all the nurses and staff at Preferred Care Hospice for taking such wonderful care of our dear mother in her final stages.

A private family service will be held at a later date according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31097.
