Katherine June Craig Rickard, 81, of Columbus passed away of natural causes Sunday, Sep 1, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, September 6, 2013 at Schomburg Road Baptist Church, 7155 Schomburg Rd Columbus, GA 31909 with Rev. Buddy Lamb officiating. Interment will follow in Ft. Mirchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA, 31907.
Mrs. Rickard was born in Tacoma, WA on June 28, 1932 to the late Paul B and Katherine Craig. She married a serviceman, George V. Rickard formerly of Ridgeway, PA, and they spent most of her adult life in Columbus. Mrs. Rickard was a member of Schomburg Rd. Baptist Church.
Friends and customers will remember June's smiling face from her many years working as a cashier at Lewis-Jones grocery stores. She was an ardent Braves fan, enjoyed traveling and collecting porcelain bells, and never missed an invitation to play "mexican train" dominoes.
"Me-me" was foremost a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Hers was a very happy home where everyone was welcomed with warmth and love.
Mrs. Rickard is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 37 years, George Vincent Rickard, her parents, a sister, Evelyn Woodard, and brothers Robert and John Craig.
Survivors include her children, Cheri Nolan of Columbus, Nina Byrnside and husband Frank of Fredericksburg, VA, Tawny Reed and husband Dale of Columbus, Kim Morgan and husband John of Union Grove, AL, and Randy Rickard and wife Paula of West Point, GA; grandchildren Jonathon Nolan and Tanya Medlin of Newnan, GA, Jason Reed of Columbus, Daniel Byrnside and wife Amanda of Charleston, SC, Rebecca Cook and husband Bobby of Fredericksburg, VA, Anna Donelson and husband Lee of West Point, GA, Randy R Rickard II and Sydney Camp of West Point, GA, and John V Morgan, Frank Morgan, and Jacob Morgan, all of Union Grove, AL; nine great-grandchildren; brother Paul B Craig and wife Carole of Homedale, ID; sisters Luella Hallberg of University Place, WA, and Carol Hoey of Tacoma, WA; and sisters in law Rita Craig of Tacoma, WA, and Vonda Rickard of Crothersville, IN.
