Karen Ellis Wood, 67, of Columbus, GA died peacefully at home March 8, 2024. A memorial service will be held 4:00 PM Tuesday, March 12, 2024 Central Christian Church, 7775 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909. The family will receive friends following the service.
Karen was born October 1, 1956 in Fargo, ND to Dr. Theo H. Ellis, Sr. and Evelyn Ellis Darsey. She graduated from Carver High School and earned a Bachelor's degree from Columbus College. She worked at Hughston Hospital, Albright's Florist, and the Medical Center (Piedmont). Karen devoted her life to her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Carley Wood Thigpen; grandchildren, Evelyn Gray Thigpen, John Maddox Thigpen, and Rosemary Katherine Thigpen; sisters, Linda Clegg and Kathy Frost (Arthur); brother Theo H. “Ted” Ellis, Jr. (Judy); nine nieces and nephews. Karen also treasured her lifelong friendships with Patti Haick Neese, Marsha Pate Gruhn, and Priscilla Porch Mudge.
