Julie McLain Powell, 87 of Columbus passed away on February 22, 2025 at her residence with her loving son by her side.
A memorial gathering will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 22, 2025 at her home.
Julie was born March 12, 1937 to the late Ethel Bagley McLain in Salem, AL and raised in the Catholic Church. She was the granddaughter of the town’s only doctor/dentist, and her grandmother was Salem's Post Master General. Being a proud Army wife, Julie stood by and represented her husband Jack with grace and dignity. Raising her two sons and performing numerous volunteer jobs at various army posts around the country kept her extremely busy; but at the same time, she built and kept up with many lifelong friends along the way. She loved to travel and experience the beauty of the people and places during each of those adventures. Her many friends can attest to her strength of character, her boundless enthusiasm, her loving and caring nature, as well as her eclectic style, that never failed to bring a smile or brighten a day. She was a true “Steel Magnolia”, and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Other than her mother, Ethel Bagley McLain, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph J. Powell and her son, Jackson Powell.
Survivors include her son: Jerry Powell of Columbus, GA, granddaughter: Ashley Powell of Rincon, GA, great grandchildren: Ava Posey and Mason Posey both of Rincon, GA and her cousin: Dwight Whitley of Salem, AL
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to: Animal Ark Rescue, 2509 Manchester Expressway. Columbus, GA 31904
