Joyce Summerlin Bartley, 94, passed away January 31, 2025. Mrs. Bartley was born October 14th, 1930 in Anniston, AL, daughter of Ida and John Summerlin. She was preceded in death at an early age by her mother, father, and one sister. She was reared by her beloved aunt and uncle, OH and Maudie Stephens, from the age of two. She grew up in Valley, AL graduating from Valley Vocational High School. She was a receptionist in the Family Practice Clinic for many years. She regularly attended Sherwood and Morningside Presbyterian Church.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Julian Bartley. She is survived by her daughter, Alisa (Sidney) Joyce Mays, her son, Dr. William Miller, and her beloved daughter-in-law, Jill Anderson. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Jessica (Paul) Joyce Caspers, Samantha Mays, and Julian Miller. Additionally she adored her 4 great-grandchildren: Peter, Jacqueline Joyce, Charlie, and Lucas Caspers.

Joyce was an avid reader and storyteller. She instilled a love of reading in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. No one valued a good deal like Joyce. She never passed a yard sale, thrift store or consignment shop where she couldn’t unearth a treasure.

Joyce passed away after a long battle with dementia. During her final years HomeInstead provided excellent, loving care and companionship.

Joyce donated over ten gallons of life-saving blood to the American Red Cross and encouraged others to donate as well. Therefore In lieu of flowers, monetary or blood donations can be made to the American Red Cross.
