Joseph Webb Wilson, 89, of Columbus, died peacefully at Columbus Hospice House on Friday, December 7, 2018.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 14, 2018 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Boulevard, Columbus, GA 31907. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10:00 AM.
Joe Wilson was born December 27, 1929 in Atlanta, GA. He was the son of the late J.L. Wilson and Gladys Lawless Wilson. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He served in the United States Navy for seven years. He was assigned to the USS Bairoko in the Pacific Fleet during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954. During his time of service, he met his loving wife Billie Ruth Ballew Wilson. They married in 1949. They later moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he began a long career in the automobile industry. They moved to Columbus in 1967 where he worked as a sales and parts manager at Ken Thomas Motor Company, retiring in 1994. He was a committed member of Waldrop Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and sang in the Choir. He enjoyed time with family, church activities, playing golf, model trains and playing music. He was an accomplished harmonicist and played regularly at local nursing homes and had the privilege of playing at the 1996 Olympic Softball tournament.
Other than his parents, Joe Wilson was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Ruth Wilson, two brothers, J.L. Wilson and Marvin Wilson.
Survivors include his son, Dean Wilson, his stepson, Caesar Maragni (Phyllis), his grandchildren, Joseph Chey Wilson (Jill), Brooke Wilson Saalman (Ryan), Brett Maragni (Lacey), his great grandchildren, Ava Wilson, Pike Wilson, Jacob Saalman, Hudson Saalman, Chase Maragni, Bryce Maragni, Grace Ann Maragni, and Esther Maragni.
