Joe Weekley passed away June 5, 2023 in the early morning at home accompanied by his loving children Scott and Dawn, and close friends.

A joint service for Joe and Evelyn (September 1, 1942 – September 7, 2021) will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 212 12th Street, Columbus, GA 31901, with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating followed by a remembrance celebration in the fellowship hall.

Joe was born on February 17, 1933 in Five Points, Alabama to the late Reverend Paul E. Weekley and Lois McCrary Weekley. Attended high school at Baker High School, and then Jordan High School, graduating in 1952.

Joe entered the Army in 1953, achieving the level of Corporal. He served a total of two years active duty and six years in the Army Reserves.

Following his military service, Joe met Evelyn, and soon married his loving wife December 2, 1961. A team for 59 years, together, they built a business, bought a house, and had 2 wonderful children Scott and Dawn. Joe served as a deacon, and a Sunday school teacher for many years, coordinating several camping trips and outings for the youth. He enjoyed fishing, and always had his fishing tackle in the truck for a few quick cast. If there was one word to describe Joe’s personality, it would be “mischievous”. He always had a smile, and a practical joke when you weren’t looking. He loved to tinker, building numerous go carts for his children, long walks in the woods watching the wild life.

Preceding his death were his loving wife Evelyn McKinney Weekley; his brother Luther Weekley and William Weekley and his sister Vivian Noell.

He is survived by his children, son Scott Weekley and daughter Dawn Weekley, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Lydia Marino, Zachary Weekley, Elizabeth Weekley, Olivia Weekley; and three great-grandchildren, McKinney McQuien, Luke Marsh, Harrison Marsh; one sister Phoebe Heath ,plus numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
