Joseph Edward Parmer, 84, a resident of Columbus, died Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Columbus Hospice surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, August 23, 2021 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Joe was born in Dale County, AL, son of the late John Remus Parmer and Willie Mae Knight Parmer. He retired from Bibb Mill after many years as a loom fixer. After retirement, Joe worked delivering medications for Bagwell Pharmacy. He loved a good game of chance and went fishing every chance he got with his best friend and nephew, now deceased, James Fuqua. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Ruth Greeson Parmer, son, John Eric Parmer, three sisters, Codine Fuqua, Gertrude Sellers and Charity Helms, two brothers, Lewey Parmer and William Parmer, and stepson, Terry Queen.
Surviving relatives include his daughter, Beth Scott (Floyd), son, Bobby Dutton (Terri), stepdaughters, Joann Caldwell (Dan), Darlene Halstead, Jackie Owens (Ken), grandchildren, Amanda Clardy (Jeremy), Kyle Dutton (Ashlee), Ben Chrismond, Ashley Parmer, Jonathan Parmer (Brianna), Megan Parmer, Sara Parmer, Autumn Scott, Kailey Scott, Skylar Scott, Ragan Floyd, Michael Queen (Michelle), Brandie Gatlin (Greg), April Hocutt (William), Jeffrey Halstead (Ashleigh), Sean Norkus, Parker and Benjamin Owens, Five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
