Joseph Wright Parker, 82, of Columbus, GA died Thursday, June 16, 2011 at his home under the care of Columbus Hospice.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2011 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Derrick Bell officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Parker was born October 10, 1928 in Manhattan, NY son of the late George Thomas Osmer and Anna Nicoles Osmer. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years as an E-5. He retired in 1987 from Civil Service. He was the Past Master of the Friendship Masonic Lodge in Columbus, GA. He was a member of the VFW, Shriner's Club, and Southside Baptist Church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Donald Stephen Parker.
Survivors include his wife, Marika Parker of Columbus, GA, son, Daryl Wayne Parker of Columbus, GA, daughter, Karen D. Gaskins and husband, Tony, of Columbus, GA, and one grandchild, Kyle Joseph Adair of Columbus, GA.
