Joseph Perry "Tank" Barnes, 67, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Trinity Temple Assembly of God, Columbus, GA officiated by Pastor Dudley Tye and Reverend Gerald Bultman. The family will received loved ones and friends from 5 until 7 PM at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Barnes was born March 10, 1942 in Columbus, GA, son of the late Pastor Oscar Lee Barnes and Jeretha Nadine Bradham. He was the retired owner of Perry Barnes Painting and Decorating. He took great pride in pointing out the many prominent buildings and residences in Columbus that he painted. Most notably the new Columbus High School Baseball Complex. In addition to his passion for Blue Devil Baseball, Mr. Barnes loved his entire family. He also loved Alabama Crimson Tide Football.
Other than his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jerrenda Caldwell, stepfather, Jack Davis, and special uncle, Floyd Wade, Jr.
Survivors include his mother, Jeretha Nadine Davis of Columbus, GA, son, Tommy Barnes (Deana) of Cumming, GA, sisters, Sudine Hudgins (Gary) of Columbus, GA, Faline Coleman of Columbia, SC, and one brother, Roger Barnes of Columbus, GA, grandchildren, Joshua Barnes of Columbus, GA, Jonathan Barnes and Amanda Bernhard both of Fortson, GA, one great grandchild, Madelyn Grace Bernhard, special cousin, Dennis Bradham, and many dear nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the following: Dr. Shane Darrah and staff, The Medical Center Staff, Columbus Hospice Staff, and caretakers Roxanne Robinson and Melanie Priester.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in his memory to Columbus Hospice 7020 Moon Rd. Columbus, GA 31909.
