Jonathan Dixon Wilson, 42, of Columbus, GA, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 16, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Clark Standard and Mr. Kevin Stone officiating. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 4:00-6:00 PM at the funeral home and also after the service on Sunday.
Mr. Wilson was born May 12, 1971 in Tulsa, OK, son of Maryann Brown Werner (Thomas) of Phenix City, AL, and Johnny Wilson (Gracie) of Columbus, GA. He played little league baseball and football throughout his childhood at Pioneer Little League. Jonathan was a member of the 4-H Program during his teenage years. He was elected President of the Columbus 4-H and later served as a District Officer. He was a graduate of Columbus High School and a 1996 graduate of the University of Georgia where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. Jonathan was an avid Bulldog fan and for years attended all Georgia football games until he became ill. Jonathan had a passion for Georgia football. He was able to remember and quote the scores and plays from every game. He was Georgia's number one fan. Jonathan was an entrepreneur and operated his own BBQ Catering Service in New Orleans, LA.
Survivors other than his parents include his wife, Sara Beth Leikin of New Orleans, LA; sister, Robin Thompson (John) of Macon, GA; nieces, Anna and Mary Ellen Thompson of Macon, GA, Baylee Calenberg of Villa Rica, GA; step-sister, Marcie Calenberg (Kerry) of Villa Rica, GA; father and mother-in-law, Marty and Jean Leikin of Sarasota, FL; sister-in-law, Kate Mitchell (Thomas) of Sarasota, FL; nephew Jackson and niece Marin of Sarasota, FL, aunts, Tammy Echols (Terry), Sue Brown, Phyllis Bailey, Linda Furer (Bob), Becky Walters, and Rosemary Wilson ; uncles, Gary Dixon Brown (Jean), Greg Brown, Butch Wilson (Donna), Buck Wilson (Becky), and many cousins, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Stewart Dixon Brown and Nellie Brown; paternal grandparents, Joe and Jean Wilson; uncles, Michael Stewart Brown, Corky Wilson, and Gib Bailey; cousin, Michael Preston Brown.
