It is with great sadness that the family of Johnny A. Thomason, Jr. announces his passing after a long struggle with cancer, on Tuesday, January 10 2012, at the age of 68 years.
He was born May 15 1943 in Columbus, Georgia to the late Johnny A. and Myrtle (Hughes) Thomason. He graduated from Jordan High School in Columbus. A "Big Rig" truck driver for most of his professional career, Johnny found his greatest happiness in the company of those he loved - family and friends.
Johnny will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 34 years, Jane and his children, David, James (Robin), Robert (Sue), John, Lisa (Stan). Johnny will also be lovingly remembered by his 17 grandchildren, his 3 great-grand children, by his nieces and nephew, and many friends. In addition to his parents Johnny was preceded in death by his brother Melvin and his sister Allene.
A Funeral Service in memory of Johnny will be held on Saturday, January 14 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at the McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, Georgia with Bishop James Harrell officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. Friends and relatives are welcome at the McMullen Funeral Home on Friday, January 13, 2012 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
We would like to express our deep and heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Andrew Pippas, his staff, Dr. Antonio Rodriguez, the staff of the John B. Amos Cancer Center and the many others who have supported our family during Johnny's illness.
