Johnny Bruce Goodwin

Johnny Bruce Goodwin, 76, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away Thursday morning, October 12, 2023, at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Hospital in Columbus, Georgia.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 21, 2023, in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907.

Johnny was born April 5, 1947, to the late Robert Lee and Leona Helms Goodwin.  Johnny graduated from Griffin High School in 1965 and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966 at the age of 19.  After making a deal to be sent home on leave in exchange for re-enlisting and extending his service contract, Johnny married the love of his life, Joyce Chaney, in September 1968.  With Joyce by his side, Johnny continued on to serve 20 years in the U.S. Army.  Johnny and Joyce Goodwin faced life head-on, through good times and bad, through adversity, adventure, and happiness, in health and through sickness, always together as one.  For Johnny, Joyce was an angel disguised as a person and truly perfect.

Johnny was a kind and loving father of two sons, Jonathan, born in 1979, and Joshua, born in 1981. Through his own example, Johnny taught the importance of honor, integrity, and work ethic.  Johnny and Joyce provided a home full of warmth, love, happiness, and humor.

Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce Goodwin; his siblings Dorothy Williams, Robert Goodwin, Billy Goodwin, Lois Correll, Nell Cruse, and Callie May Goodwin; and, his loyal dog, Sandy.

Johnny is survived by his children, Jonathan Goodwin and Joshua and Kari Goodwin; his grandchildren Orion and Haley Goodwin, Amelia Goodwin, and Sylus Goodwin; and his sisters Ona Ledford and Bobbie Slicer.
