Major John G. Norris, US Army (Retired), of 7401 Peppercorn Drive, a devoted Mason, laid down his working tools and joined the Lord on 4 June 2015. Viewing will be at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA on Monday 8 June 2015 at 10:00 AM followed by a Memorial Service at the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at the Fort Benning Cemetery on Wednesday 10 June 2015 at 11:00 AM. Major Norris was born 15 July 1920 in South Coventry, Connecticut to Reginald B. and Marion Parker Norris. He was a veteran of WWII and Korea. He retired from the US Army with over twenty-one years of active service, and later retired from Home Federal Savings and Loan Association.

Major Norris was an Honorary Past Master of Fort Benning Lodge No. 579, F&AM, and a Mason for over 65 years. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason KCCH and a life member of the York Rite Bodies in Edinburg, Scotland and Germany; Al Sihah Temple, AAONMS; Columbus Fort Benning Shrine Club; Royal Order of Scotland; Fort Benning Chapter No. 278, OES; Chattahoochee York Rite College No. 166; Muscogee Conclave Red Cross of Constantine; Military Order of World Wars; Sons of the American Revolution; and, a past Director of Collingwood Library and Museum on Americanism in Alexandria, VA. He was also a National Commander of the Heroes of ‘76, National Sojourners, Inc. Major Norris was a member of the Fort Benning Main Post Chapel.

He was preceded in death by Margaret R. Norris, his spouse of 48 1/2 years; his sister Shirley Fairman; and, his half-sister Betty Berg of Redding, CA. Survivors include a daughter, June Elizabeth Norris, of Gresham, OR; a son, Michael J. Norris, of Auburn, WA; a step-daughter, Janice C. Lakin, of Tulsa, OK; a step-son, James J. Cravens, Jr., of Simpsonville, SC.; four step-grandchildren; and, eight step-great grandchildren.
