John Henry Murphy of Columbus, GA passed away on Monday, January 17, 2011 in Roanoke, VA as a result of a highway accident.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 21, 2011 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jerry Speer officiating. Interment with Navy Honors and Masonic Rites will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
John was born on January 8, 1947 in Columbus, GA to the late B.C. and Leola Murphy. John was employed as a truck driver for Dolly Madison Bakery for five years and retired from Tom's Foods as a truck driver. John was a member of the Million Mile Club at Tom's Foods which is a club for truck drivers who have driven over a million miles with no accidents. John was a Mason with the Ft. Benning Masonic Lodge and a Shriner with the Phenix City Shrine Club.
John was an avid hunter and fisherman, but above all, was a devoted husband and father. John enjoyed teaching Zachary how to hunt and fish and they also enjoyed riding four wheelers together.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Murphy.
John is survived by his wife, Faye Borders Murphy, daughters, Kimberly Simmonds (Randy) of Flowery Branch, GA and Mundi Renee Martin of Columbus, GA, sons, Zachary Taylor Murphy of Columbus, GA, Michael Whaley of Charlotte, NC and Martin Roshto (Theresa) of Woodworth, LA, grandchildren, Kyla Simmonds, Christian Martin, Brandy Roshto, Chance Roshto and Adam Roshto, and one great granddaughter, Graceland Roshto, five brothers, James Murphy of Ariton, AL, Loren Murphy of Smith Station, AL, Gerald Murphy (Gene) of Brundidge, AL, Wayne Murphy (Diane) of Ariton, AL and Steven Murphy of Ariton, AL, and many nieces and nephews.
