John Gerald Metasavage, 62, a resident of Columbus, GA died Monday, April 15, 2024.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, April 22, 2024 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Ed Rollins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
John was born July 4, 1961 in Augsburg Germany to the late Peter Frank Metasavage and Hermine Schindlauer Metasavage. He was an extremely talented baseball player having played on Joe Pate's first state championship team, Kendrick High School 1977. Played college baseball at Auburn University and was drafted / played for the New York Mets Triple AAA baseball team in Little Falls, NY. During his career he coached and mentored hundreds of youth teaching them the fun and fundamentals of playing baseball. Being versatile in position, infield at first, second, third base and shortstop he was always eager to get on the field. Even though he was right handed and became a switch hitter though the maintained a much higher batting average from the left side.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Peter Frank Metasavage, Jr. Survivors include his brothers, Frank Metasavage of Columbus, GA , Michael Metasavage (Karen) of Fortson, GA and Kenneth Metasavage also of Columbus, GA.
