SFC (Ret.) John Edward Harris, 75, of Midland, GA died Friday, August 19, 2016 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Reverend James York officiating. Interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
SSG Harris was born January 8, 1939 to the late Jim and Millie Harville Harris. He retired after 24 years as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart, 5 good conduct medals, a national defense medal, and a Vietnam service medal with five bronze stars. SSG Harris was a Mason and was a loving husband and father.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Armanda Harris; sons, Sean Harris, Donnie Harris, Aaron Harris, and Alan Harris; siblings, Mary Abernathy, Dorothy Paige, Rella Gosh, Anthony Harris, Raymond Harris, and Willie May Paige; seventeen grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
