John “Jack” Edward Daniels Jr., 84, of Midland, GA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2024, while sitting on his favorite chair taking in the beauty of his backyard. Jack leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and service. A man of integrity and quiet strength, Jack was a devoted husband, father, and friend whose life touched many in profound ways.
A celebration of Jack’s life, with full military honors, will be held 3:00 PM, Monday, November 11, 2024, in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. John Bumgardner officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd, Columbus, GA 31907. A private interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.
Born on December 6, 1939, in Lykens, PA, to the late John Edward Daniels Sr. and Leona Daniels, Jack grew up with a passion for knowledge, service, and family. A proud member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Columbus, GA, he lived his faith quietly but powerfully, through his actions and generosity.
He served honorably for 24 years in the Army (Infantry), including a tour of duty in Viet Nam and retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Jack was deeply committed to his family, especially his children. He took great pride in nurturing their education and dreams, guiding them with love and wisdom. Known for his sharp mind, inquisitive nature and strong opinions, he was an avid reader with a particular love for history. He also found joy in music, playing the drums, and had a new-found passion for travelling the world.
Jack’s life was marked by deep love and dedication. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gail Daniels, and his beloved daughter, Jackie Screen. He is survived by his loving wife, Vicki Daniels of Midland, GA, who shared his life and dreams; his children, David Daniels (Deborah) of Westminster, SC; Angie Jacob (Ken) of Dawsonville, GA; Dawn Gowanloch (Gregg) of Pleasanton, CA; Chris Rogers (Susan) of Buena Vista, GA; and Carey Rogers (Tammy) of Graham, AL. Jack also leaves behind a legacy in his 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his values and spirit.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to House of Heroes to honor Jack’s lifelong commitment to service and to helping others.
Jack Daniels Jr. was a man of purpose, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. His presence will be missed, but his spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched and in the love he shared.
