John Carey “JC” Bray, Sr., 96, passed away peacefully at his home in Columbus, Georgia surrounded by his family on Wednesday April 19, 2023.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday April 24, 2023 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Connie Happell officiating. The family will receive friends from one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA  31907.

JC was born September 23, 1926 in Columbus, Georgia, son of the late Mattie Carey Bray, and Hugh Solomon Bray, Sr. JC attended Jordan High School and served his country as a Merchant Marine on the USS Earnest Hinds hospital ship during World War II and later in the 65th Engineer Battalion, 25th Infantry Division with the US Army in Korea. JC married Madge Colvin at Edgewood Presbyterian Church in 1955 and they were married for 60 years until her death in 2016. He was a devoted husband, father, and proud grandfather. His career as a Mechanical Contractor spanned over 60 years. He was active in the National and State Associations of Plumbing Heating and Cooling Contractors until his retirement and served on the Georgia State Licensing Board for many years. He had a special passion for spending time at his country place in Talbot County and loved hosting Thanksgiving there for many years.

Other than his parents, JC was preceded in death by his wife Madge Bray, and brothers Hugh Solomon Bray, Jr. and James Allen Bray.

Survivors include his two sons, John Bray (Becky) and William Bray (Ronie); five grandchildren, Carey Bray, Anna Bray, Preston Bray (Sarah), Miranda Bray, and Maxwell Bray; three great grandchildren, Mary Glenn Bray, Lilly Bray, and Peters Bray; and special family friends Janet Davis and Jimbo Davis.

The family would like to extend their special thanks to Jessy Vickery and the staff at Columbus Hospice for their attentive and compassionate care, and to JC’s Church Family at Edgewood Presbyterian Church who have shared much love and support.
