MSG (Ret.) John W. Baylor was born on November 18, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Corrine Baylor and the late John Smith. He departed this life on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Columbus Hospice, Miller Road, Columbus, GA. John was preceded in death by his mother, father, step-father, Carlos; brother, Richard; brother, Joseph; and sister, Carolyn.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Lawrence Stewart officiating. Interment will be held at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 10:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home.

John attended elementary and high school in Philadelphia, graduating from Bok High School. After high school, John decided to enter the military and joined the United States Army in 1968. John's military career carried him to many places including Vietnam; Fort Benning, GA; Fort Riley, KS; and El Paso, TX. John retired in 1989 after 22 years of service. He acquired numerous awards while in the military: Army Commendation Medal; Air Medal; Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Medal; NCO Professional Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Combat Infantry Medal; Master Parachutist Badge and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.

John was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved Jazz, gardening, and different agricultural themes. He was co-founder of the Black Hat Breakfast Club which met every Thursday.

John was married to Cynthia Baylor for 58 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Cynthia; two daughters, Sherry and Donna Jean; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, Carlos; sister Bonnie and numerous cousins. Jack, his beloved Jack Russell, has missed him since day one (October 1, 2018).
