Joe Haluski, 94, of Columbus, GA, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed into eternal life on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Columbus Hospice House.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church 320 12th St. Columbus, GA 31901 with Father Frank Patterson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the ushers of the church. Interment with full military honors will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. A rosary will be said 5 p.m. Tuesday evening with visitation to follow according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Haluski was born January 28, 1916 in Greenbrier, WV son of the late Michael and Anna Lesknlynech Haluski. He was a Veteran of the United States Army where he served his country honorably in World War II and Korea. He retired after 30 years with the rank of Command Sergeant Major. Upon retirement from the Army, he worked for 12 years at Campbell Furniture Store and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Joe spent many happy hours working in his yard and tending to his flower and vegetable gardens. He was also known for his beautiful Christmas display.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Julia R. Haluski of Columbus, GA, daughter, Sophie Ann Kirby of Columbus, GA, son, Joseph Michael Haluski (Dannette) of Waycross, GA, four grandchildren, Jason Haluski, Holly Haluski Jones (Sy), Kevin Kirby and Christopher Kirby, and five great grandchildren, Brenton Kirby, Cade Jones, Cannon Jones, Star Kirby and Arre-mon Kirby.
He will be remembered for his strong work ethics, his love for family and friends and his willingness to help others. Thank you Daddy for the example you set for the rest of us to follow. Your memories will be cherished in our hearts.
