JoAnn R. McVay, a cherished soul known for her warmth and generosity, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2024, at the age of 86 in Columbus, GA.

A private graveside service will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. A public visitation will be held 5:00–6:00 PM Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Ga. 31907.

Born on Christmas Day in 1937 in Headland, AL, JoAnn's life was a true embodiment of the joy and spirit of the season. JoAnn was the loving daughter of the late Joe and Esther Register and the devoted wife of William (Butch) McVay, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a life full of love and shared it generously with their family and friends. Her legacy continues through her children, William R. "Bob" McVay (Amanda), LeAnn Harp (Henry), and James E. "Jamie" McVay (Sheri), who remember their mother as a beacon of love and strength. JoAnn's life was enriched by the laughter and milestones of her grandchildren, including her late grandson Will McVay, Mary Elizabeth McVay, Brooke Hines (Brandon), Mitchell Harp, Mark McVay, and Kate McVay.

‘MaMaw’ took great pride in her role as a grandmother and cherished every moment spent with the loves of her life. She spent many happy days babysitting, swimming and fishing with them at her home in Coca-Lake. The joy of MaMaw’s later years was amplified by the arrival of her great-grandchildren, Will and Harper Hines. Known for her kind heart and open door, JoAnn's home was a gathering place for many, including her special friends Eddie and Kecia Cawthorne. Her ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. From humble beginnings in Bibb City, JoAnn was a lifelong homemaker and caregiver to many, many family members. She was an avid reader, a magnificent cook, and if ever there was a Master Barbecue Assistant, she was it for Butch. She lived her golden years with her beloved pet companion, Fritz, who passed away only a few weeks ago.

As we bid farewell to JoAnn, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of cherished memories and enduring love. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, her friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Though she has left this earthly realm, the light of JoAnn's life will continue to shine brightly in the legacy she leaves behind. JoAnn will be profoundly missed, yet we take solace in the knowledge that her spirit remains with us, guiding us with the same love and wisdom she shared so generously in life. As we say goodbye, we hold tight to the moments that made her life extraordinary and the love that made it beautiful. Rest in peace, dear JoAnn. Your memory will forever be a treasured part of our lives.
