Joan Poppineau, 76, of Columbus, GA died Thursday, May 13, 2010 at The Medical Center.
Mrs. Poppineau was the daughter of the late George and Tresa Baldwin of Youngstown, OH. She was married to William F. Poppineau from 1952 until his death in 1985. She was a military wife and lived in many places. After his retirement from the Navy, they settled in the coastal region of Georgia. They moved to Marietta, GA in 1981 to be closer to their children. She was employed by the Cobb County School Board and retired in 1998. In 2000, she moved to Columbus to be closer to family.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by a son, William G. Poppineau and wife, Susan of Dallas, GA, two daughters, Sherry Ellison and husband, William of Columbus, GA, Diane Ansaldi and husband, Anthony of Cape Coral, FL, sister and brother, Laurel Kish and Richard Baldwin of Youngstown, OH and many nieces and nephews. She had six grandchildren: Rebecca Ellison Lundy, David Ellison, Thomas Ansaldi, Leslie Popp, Bryan Poppineau and Kelly Poppineau. She also had a great grandson, Nikolaus Lundy, Jr. She leaves behind a devoted dog, Shayla.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 16, 2010 in the Conference Center at Wynnbrook Baptist Church 500 River Knoll Way Columbus, GA 31904. There will be a private burial in Marietta, GA at a later date.
