J.M. "Marcy" Chastain, Sr., 88, of Cusseta, GA died Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Vista Care at Franciscan Woods in Columbus, GA.
Funeral services with military honors will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2011 at First Baptist Church 104 Mt. Olive St. Cusseta, GA 31805 with Reverend Mark Hudson officiating. Interment will be held at Mt. Olive Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Chastain was born December 19, 1922 in Chattahoochee Co., GA son of the late Joseph Fletcher and Willie Mae Johnson Chastain. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in World War II. He retired as a Rural Letter Carrier from the U.S. Postal Service and later worked at the Eagle Phenix Mills. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cusseta, GA and served as a deacon for over 50 years. He also taught Sunday School and was very involved in the church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy May Chastain.
Survivors include his daughters, Marcia Humphreys (Jim) of Euharlee, GA and Cindy Wade (Rick) of Columbus, GA, son, Jesse M. Chastain, Jr. (Janis) of Milton, GA, and grandchildren, Meghann Humphreys, Jillian Humphreys, Madeline Wade, Richard Wade, Jessica Chastain, and Jordan Chastain.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church in Cusseta.
