Jesse William Brannen, Jr.

Jesse William Brannen, Jr., 84, of Phenix City, AL died Monday, October 24, 2022, at Columbus Hospice.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. A memorial visitation will be held Tuesday December 6, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Lakewood Golf Course Clubhouse.

Jesse was born November 19, 1937 in Jesup, GA to the late Jesse William Brannen, Sr. and Carrie Manning. He loved hunting, especially alligator hunting and fishing at his river place in Florida. He loved his horses and they were a integral part of his life. He showed horses and judged horse shows. He was instrumental in establishing the Exchange Club’s Horse Show. J.W was a realtor for many years, a Phenix City councilman, and worked as the county appraisal tax assessor for 25 years. After retirement Jesse was the Phenix City Economic development director and later became a the legislative lobbyist for Phenix City. He was the former president of the Democratic party of Phenix City, AL.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Brannen; siblings, Martha Mosely, Charlotte Mills, Mary Hill, Claudia Turner, Gail Herdon, Nancy Peverieri, Wendell Brannen, and Gene Brannen.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Brannen of Phenix City, AL, children, Tracy Brannen Snipes (Bob) of Columbus, GA, Jesse Scott Brannen (Dana) of Statesboro, GA, Ronnie Brannen of Carrollton, GA; grandchildren, Jessica Brannen of Lagrange, GA, McKenzie Brannen of Statesboro, GA, Robbie Snipes Columbus, GA; great grandchild, Rylan Brannen; sisters, Susie Dixon, and Debbie Kylmshyn.
