Jerry Lee Luquire, 75, of Columbus, GA, went to be with the Lord Jesus on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, June 16, 2014 at Edgewood Baptist Church with Rev. David Howle officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church, 3564 Forrest Rd. Columbus, GA 31907. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery.
Jerry Lee Luquire was born July 27, 1938 in Durham, NC to Lloyd and Gladys Luquire. He came to Columbus as a radio and television broadcaster in 1961 and worked for WRBL TV and Radio and WLTZ TV for many years. He worked for American Family Life Assurance for a number of years and founded Brentwood Christian Press in 1982 which became America's leading publisher of Christian materials. Jerry was the leader of the Georgia Christian Coalition, a political action group promotion legislation respecting family and Christian values and ideals. He was the 1st president of the Sertoma Club of Columbus. He was an entered apprentice Mason, a member of the NAACP, and was a dedicated member of Edgewood Baptist Church for over 50 years. He was active as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon and driver for various groups for their outings. Jerry was the chief aid to U.S. Rep. Jack Brinkley in Washington D.C. for two terms.
Jerry was well known for his television and radio shows which sparked political debates on the airwaves. He was well known for his television and radio talk shows including The Jerry Luquire Show and for his appearance early in his career at functions as radio personality, "JL the DJ in his PJs".
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, LC Luquire, Jr.
Jerry was the patriarch of the Luquire family and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce and their two sons, Brace and wife Susan of Columbus and Bryan and wife Sandra of Birmingham; seven grandchildren, Steven, Adam, Brad, Justin, Derek, Sophia, and Spencer. Other survivors include, Earl Conway of South Carolina, Janet Luquire of California, Stephen Luquire (Nephew) of Texas, and Shari Luquire Dearing (Niece) of California.
