Ret. SFC Jerry Glen Champion, 68, of Columbus, GA passed away Friday, August 07, 2020 at Columbus Hospice.
A graveside service will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. A visitation will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2020 from 5:00 -7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, those attending the funeral service or visitation will be required to wear a face mask and social distancing will be in effect.
Jerry was born May 7, 1952 in Columbus, GA. His parents were Alfred Stuckey and Barbara M. Stuckey. He served in the US Army as an Airborne Ranger for 20 years retiring as SFC. After his Army career Jerry spent over 10 years as an ER nurse. Jerry was a member of the VFW and Ranger Association. He loved fishing, socializing with friends, history, and traveling. Jerry loved spending time and going on adventures with his dear friends Mike Taylor and Polly Adams.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Hansen of Aurora, IL, sons Hunter Champion (Tabitha) of Birmingham, AL, Bryan Champion (Jennifer) of Columbus, GA, sisters Jan Ammons (Clayton) of Buena Vista, GA, Dawn Welch (Kim) of Buena Vista, GA, two grandchildren Bradley and Lukas Champion and several nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Rangers Lead the Way Fund.
