Mr. Halstead was born September 13, 1958 in Columbus, Ga. son of the late James Ruedon Halstead, Sr. and Vivian Halstead Miller. Big Jeff was first and foremost a man of God and accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior of his life. He was an avid sports participant and fan. He grew up playing multiple sports, but his greatest passion came later when he was coaching his children and other young people in football, baseball and softball. He was a well respected coach in the community and left his mark on the lives of many young athletes. In his later years, he loved nothing more than watching his grandkids participate in their respective passions. He could often be seen at Northern Little League encouraging the players and also encouraging the umpires and coaches to be better at their jobs. Big Jeff was passionate about his love for Christ, his family and his friends.
Other than his parents, Mr. Halstead was preceded in death by his brother Jerry Anthony Halstead.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Darlene Queen Halstead, a daughter, April Halstead Hocutt (William) of Columbus, GA, a son, Jeffrey Alan Halstead II (Ashleigh) of Ellerslie, GA, three grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Liam Hocutt (10), Allyson Halstead (7), and Mallie Hocutt (6). He was also survived by a brother, Jimmy Halstead, and an aunt, Jeanette Harvey, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to either the St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Golden Acres Baptist Church Children's Ministry.
