Janie Stewart Riley

Janie Stewart Riley, a beacon of kindness and selfless love, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, at the age of 75, at her home in Smiths Station, Alabama, due to natural causes. Born in Macon, Georgia, on April 28, 1949, to the late William Linton Stewart and Dirley Halstead Stewart, Janie was a cherished soul who brought joy and warmth to every life she touched.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 18, 2025 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Janie attended Baker High School and devoted her early years to building a loving home. After high school, she embraced the roles of wife, mother, and later, grandmother with a passion and grace that defined her. Janie's family was the centerpiece of her life, and she often remarked that her favorite job was being a mother and Gigi. Her unconditional love and unwavering support were the foundation upon which her family thrived.

Professionally, Janie entered the workforce once her children were older, where she excelled in various positions. Her innate ability to connect with people and tireless work ethic made her an invaluable team member wherever she worked. She always cherished the simple pleasure of returning home to her family the most. Her favorite job was that of Gigi to Brooks and Zachary, whom she adored.

A great cook, Janie delighted in preparing meals that would bring her family and friends together around the table. Her kitchen was a place of conversation, love, and the delicious aromas of her well-loved recipes. Those fortunate enough to enjoy her culinary creations will forever cherish the memories of flavors and fellowship.

Janie's legacy is one of love, kindness, and selflessness. She had a heart that knew no bounds and a spirit that uplifted everyone around her. Her gentle presence and genuine care for others made her a beloved figure in her community and an irreplaceable part of her family's lives.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son Vernon “Duane” Riley; sister, Glenda Stewart Smith; brother, Timothy Stewart; and brother-in-law, Gene Smith.

Janie is survived by her son, Chris Riley, and his wife Marcee Riley, grandsons, Brooks Riley and Zachary Riley, her brother Mike Stewart, sister-in-law Karen Stewart, in-laws Ray Moore and Ann Riley Moore, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
