Rt. Lieutenant James “Dean" Walton, 59 of Columbus, Georgia died Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 25, 2021 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Police Chaplain Donald Hall officiating. Interment will be held in Evergreen Memory Gardens with Columbus Police Department Honors. The family will receive family and friends Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Lt. Walton was born April 06, 1962 in Richland Georgia son of Ernestine Rembert Walton of Columbus, Georgia and the late James Walton. Dean was the 1980 graduate of Baker High School where he played football. After high school, Dean attended The U. S. Air Force Academy for 2 years and then returned to Columbus to start his career with the Columbus Police Department. During his 32 years of service, Dean served in the Narcotics Division, Investigative services, Motor Squad and retired as a Lieutenant in patrol.
Survivors include his mother Ernestine R. Walton of Columbus, Georgia, two brothers, Mark Anthony Walton of Columbus, Georgia, Oliver Walton of Atlanta, Georgia, sisters; Sharon Anderson of Columbus, Georgia, Janetta Olaseni (Femni) of Frisco, Texas; uncle, Willard Walton (Mary) of Fairfax, Virginia; aunt, Bessie Rembert of Cusseta, Georgia and a host of loving relatives.
