James Ed Wilkes, 76, of Columbus, GA died Friday, May 9, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 16, 2014 from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Wilkes was born May 14, 1937 in East Point, GA, son of the late Andrew A. Cox and Iwana Camp Cox. He served in the U. S. Air Force and was the owner of Packaging Sales. He was a member of East Highland United Methodist Church, the National Rifle Association, APICS, AFROTC and was once a member of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Wilkes and his son, James E. Wilkes, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Jerry W. Wilkes of Columbus, GA; daughters, Andrea E. "Lisa" Hershey of Phenix City, AL and Valerie Lea Carothers of Merrit Island, FL; son, John Mitchell Wilkes of Smiths Station, AL; grandchildren, Justin Michael Reinacher of Ft. Worth, TX, Christopher David Hershey of Columbus, GA, and Elizabeth Lauren Hershey of Phenix City, AL; and great grandson, Mason Michael Blackburn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road. Columbus, GA 31909
