James Wayne Whitten, 66, of Cataula, GA died Saturday, October 17, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Vernon Prather officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, October 19, 2009 from 5 to 7 PM according to the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Whitten was born May 13, 1943 in Columbus, GA son of the late George Stringfellow and Julia Price Stringfellow. He served seven years in the U.S. Navy. He retired after 25 years from Tom's Peanut Company. Mr. Whitten was a ranch foreman with The Good Sheppard Youth Homes in Warm Springs, GA and attended Kirkland Memorial Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice Smith.
Survivors include his brothers, Gene Whitten (Emma Jean) of Cataula, GA and J.W. Daniel (Janie) of Hamilton, GA, sisters, Virginia Lott of Cataula, GA and Doris Hambrick of Columbus, GA, a loving best friend, Teresa O. Smith of Pine Mountain, GA, godson, Reinhardt Cyphers of LaGrange, GA, and several nieces and nephews.
