James Whitaker Owens, JR., 91, Albany, GA, died Monday, November 11, 2013 at The Gardens at Calvary in Columbus, GA.
Graveside Services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Floral Memory Gardens, 120 Old Pretoria Rd. Albany, GA 31707 with the Reverend Dennis Lannings officiating according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Owens was born January 29, 1922 in Fort Mitchell, AL, son of the late James Whitaker Owens and Florrie Lee Stringer Owens. He was a member of Avalon United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Mr. Owens loved his hunting dogs and loved fishing. He was a WWII Army Aircorp Veteran. He retired from Akers Truck Lines after 55 years.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife; Cornelia Todd Owens, son; James Alvin Owens, sisters; Clara Owens Mihalko, Mary Owens Hood, Patricia Owens Hood, Sarah Owens, brother; John Thacker Owens.
Survivors include son; Michael Steven Owens, Elkhart, IN, sister; Mina Owens Johns (Loyd), Columbus, GA, sister-in-law; Daisy Horne, Albany, GA, granddaughter; Jamie Elizabeth Brown (Charles), Galliano, LA, grandson; Jason Scott Horne, Tallahassee, FL, great-granddaughters; Kira Natasha Brown, Sarah Nichole Horne, great-grandson; Leonard Joseph Horne, several nieces and nephews, and special friends; John and Rose Hicks of Albany, GA who were there for him in the good times as well as the hard times.
