James Russell Walker, 80, of Fortson, GA died Monday, October 14, 2019 at his home.
The family will receive friends Thursday 2:00 to 3:00 PM, with services beginning at 3:00 PM, Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 20 GA Hwy 315, Fortson, GA 31808, with Rev. Mickey Adams officiating. The following sons and grandsons will serve as Pallbearers: Kevin, Mike, Rusty, Ryan, Matt, Chris and Evan. Interment will be held at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Walker was born August 2, 1939 in Hardin Co., IL son of the late Russell Aubrey Walker and Vercie Walker Delay. He moved to Harris County in 1984 and worked for Brown and Root Construction on the Bartlett's Ferry Dam. He remained in Georgia doing clearing and grading in the area. After "retiring", he started a small engine repair business and became known as the "Mowerman". Mr. Walker was a longtime member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Carol Hooper Walker of Fortson, GA, children, Kevin Walker (Melissa) of Carlinville, IL, Michael Walker (Allison) of Petersburg, IL, Timothy Walker (Melinda) of Oklahoma City, OK, Rusty Walker (Keri) of Buford, GA and Ryan Walker (Kelly) of Columbus, GA, grandchildren, Matthew Walker (Laura) of Litchfield, IL, Christopher Walker (Kelsey) of Carlinville, IL and Ella, Evan and Avrie Walker of Buford, GA, great-grandchildren, Kori, Hannah, Autumn and Killian, two uncles (Archie and Will Cornell), one aunt (Nora Cornell Baldwin), numerous cousins, and a very special neighbor (Gene McCrary).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Piney Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 20 GA Hwy 315 Fortson, GA 31808.
