James Robert (Bob) Ramsay, III, passed away, on Friday, October 24, 2014 after a long illness.
Following a private interment, a memorial service will be held at The First Baptist Church Chapel on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Ramsay was born on September 17, 1933 in Columbus, GA, the only child of James Robert Ramsay, Jr., and Marguerite Lingle Ramsay. He graduated from Columbus High School, attended Emory University and graduated from the University of Georgia where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He was a senior account executive with Merrill Lynch for forty years and retired as a senior executive vice-president. Mr. Ramsay was a sixth generation member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Columbus Men's Garden Club and a former member of the Country Club of Columbus, Big Eddy Club, and Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Ramsay is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Mary Danielly Ramsay; two sons, James Robert Ramsay, IV of Columbus, GA and Philip Turner Ramsay, M.D. of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his Aunt, Mrs. Alan Clifford Ramsay and three cousins, Jill Regan of Chicago, IL, Alan Clifford Ramsay, Jr., and Sally Rebecca Ramsay; and his best friend and pet, Jack.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the John B. Amos Cancer Center Foundation, 1831 5th Ave. Columbus, GA 31904 or Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road Columbus, GA 31909 or to your Church or favorite charity in memory of Mr. Ramsay.
