James Thomas Marshall, 76, of Phenix City, AL passed away Wednesday, April 2,2025, after a long battle with Merkel Cell Cancer. He was born on March 17,1949 in Athens, OH to the late James Marshall and Evelyn (Wicks) Marshall McFarland . He was married to Margaret (Dorsey) Marshall for nearly 52 years. Jim is survived by his wife; children Landon Marshall, Bowling Green KY, Saralyn Marshall, Nashville, TN, and Jaime Marshall (Jason Thompson) , Savannah, GA. He's also survived by his sister Tamara Edwards, Columbus, GA and many nieces and nephews. He's preceded in death by his oldest son Hyperion Marshall.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 12, 2025 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. The family will receive friends for visitation following the services at the funeral home.
Jim attended Whitehall Yearling High School (class of 1967) and graduated Ohio Christian University (formerly Circleville Bible College) with a degree in Sacred Literature. He went on to receive a Master's of Arts and Religion from George Fox University Seminary in 1976, while also serving as Western Administrative Director of WGN. He and Marg began their ministry as missionaries for World Gospel Mission, Pastoring the Good Shepherd Church in Nairobi, Kenya. They continued their ministry, Pastoring churches in Oregon, Georgia, Ohio, and Calgary, Alberta, Canada. After over 50 years of ministry He retired in 2021 as Senior Pastor of a three church United Methodist Charge on the banks of the Ohio River. His whole focus in life was to use his gifts through Pastoring and Music to lead people to the Lord.
Jim started his musical ministry singing with his mother and sister at area churches. He traveled and sang, arranged, and recorded albums with the Laymen Quartet & the Melody Men for 8 years. When he met Marg in college they continued this music ministry everywhere they pastored. He also was an accomplished author, writing and publishing books Code Billy 1, 2, and 3 and Meditations on M*A*S*H. These 4 books of real life meditations represent a lifetime's worth of experience and study with the ultimate goal of leading and deepening people's walk with God
Jim was a devoted son, husband, and father. Countless people will spend eternity in Heaven because of his influence. He was beloved by everyone who knew him, and his life's ministry lives on.
