James Holder was born June 16, 1936, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the son of Earnest Luther Holder and Gladys Bell Holder. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother.

Jim grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina and graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1954. He served in the Army and later attended and earned his BS degree from Auburn University. During his service at Fort Benning, Jim met his future wife June Edmondson while they were attending the Chattahoochee Valley Fair. They were happily married for 66 years. Jim had a long and distinguished career with the Federal Government working with the U.S. Department of Labor. Jim was a lifelong member of the Methodist church where he served on numerous committees and volunteered on many work projects. He always said he was most proud of his family, his military service and being and Auburn alumnus. He was a wonderful father to James Michael (Mike) and Jenny and loved spending time with his family. Jim was a self-taught golfer, having learned from his caddying experience at a very young age at the Spartanburg Country Club. He shared his passion for the game with his wife and children. He was a good golfer, including having 5 hole-in-ones. He was able to shoot or beat his age numerous times even into his 70’s and 80’s. Some of his happiest times included golfing and fishing vacation trips with his family to beaches and mountains. He also enjoyed working in his garden growing the best tomatoes in Columbus, Georgia.

James is survived by his wife June and his children Mike and Jenny. He is also survived by brother-in-law Terry Edmondson and close family friend, Celia Page.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to care givers and the medical Staff of Georgia Hospice Care for their compassionate service.
