James “Jim” Alan Grant, 76, of Midland, GA, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025 after a brief illness.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM, March 2, 2025 at Evangel Church in Columbus, Georgia.  The family will receive visitors following the service at the church.

Jim was born on August 18, 1948 to Roy and Ophelia Grant in Thomasville, Georgia.  He was a proud Baker High School alumnus from the class of 1966.  In 1968, Jim met the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Carolyne Lee Harwell Grant.  Jim and Lee went on to have two children, Amanda Grant and Mary Grant Mathena.  They gained a son when David Mathena joined the family by marriage.

After his father’s passing in 1967, Jim took over his business, Grant Tree Service.  He then founded and operated Grant Environmental Contractors until his retirement in 2019.   He was proud of his work in the Columbus community, including the landscaping at the Riverwalk, South Commons Softball Complex, the TSYS campus and Columbus Gateways projects.

Jim loved the Lord and his church family and enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, traveling, spending time outdoors, and serving on the MAPS missions’ team with his church. He volunteered on more than 35 missions trips all over the United States, Canada and South America.

Jim was predeceased by his mother (Ophelia Grant Snow), his father (Roy Grant), and his sister (Georgia Grant Kelley). He is survived by his wife  Carolyne Lee Harwell Grant, his two daughters Amanda Grant and Mary Grant Mathena (David), and his five grandchildren, Norah Mathena, Drew and Anna Mathena, Emerson Brannen, Jack Brannen and Reagan Mathena, and his brother, Michael Grant (Edda).  Jim also has a very large extended family and friends that he loved dearly.  He never met a stranger.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the MAPS Mission Program at Evangel Church, a ministry close to his heart.
